Three from Midcoast to be inducted into Maine Basketball Hall of Fame

BANGOR — A trio of basketball stars from the Midcoast have been announced as members of the 2023 induction class into the Maine Basketball Hall of Fame. 

Christina Strong, Scott Graffam and Jim Graffam are among those that will be inducted during an Aug. 20 ceremony, according to a news release from the organization. 

Below are brief biographies for each, based upon information provided by the Maine Basketball Hall of Fame.

Strong was a three sport star at Georges Valley High School in Thomaston and was recognized as the Portland Press Herald’s athlete of the year in 1990 and crowned Miss Basketball. After graduation, she attended the University of Maine where she earned four varsity letters and received the Dean Smith Award, presented each year to a male and female student-athlete for academic and athletic achievement. 

Scott Graffam graduated from Medomak Valley High School in Waldoboro and has accumulated 413 wins across a 39 year coaching career spent at Scarborough High, Medomak Valley and Oxford Hills. A three-year letter winner at Colby College in the late 1980s, he was inducted into the Midcoast Hall of Fame in 2019. 

Jim Graffam has spent more than 40 years on the sidelines as coach in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and Missouri. He has coached for Saint Joseph’s College and Westbrook College, and was named Maine’s Collegiate Coach of the Year twice. He belongs to the University of Southern Maine Hall of Fame as a player and to Westbrook’s as a coach.
