Thomaston Grammar recognizes responsibility in Nov. 2026
Several students at Thomaston Grammar School were recognized for responsibly at a school-wide assembly on November 2.
Students receiving the Responsibility Award were: Zoey Strine, Reese Rioux, Victor Coleman, Miles Curtis, Lucas Daniello, Jakob Swett, WenXin Chen, Katie Davis, Erik King, Ryleigh Gagnon, Ella Curry, Jack DeYoung, Giuliana Rubino, Nora Miclon, Leevi Libby, Payton Porter, Hailey Baughman, Hallie Saroka, Violet Gross, Marley Johnson, and Milo Fisher. The assembly was emceed by 5th grade students Jayla O’Hare, Charlie Adams, and Essie Ross.
Responsibility can be reflected in many areas of our lives. The most important aspect of being responsible is being accountable to oneself. Students who are responsible take ownership of their actions. They make sure to do what is required of them and also to do what is right, without being told or reminded to do so. They take responsibility for their choices and decisions.
Throughout the month, students were awarded “Seals of Approval” when they were caught showing responsibility or other school core values. These tickets were put into a raffle, and six lucky winners were drawn at the assembly. Winners received their choice of a prize, including gift cards donated by local businesses or lunch or game with Mrs. Riley. This month’s winners were Essie Ross, Marley Johnson, Robert Perkins, Noah Breen, and Caidence Knowlton.
Marley Johnson also received the Principal’s Award. Marley is a wonderful member of the Thomaston Grammar School community. She is kind and respectful to everyone in the Thomaston Grammar School community, staff and students alike. She quietly ensures that she is safe, kind, and being her best self always.
This Halloween, several TGS students participated in the Thomaston Public Library’s Spooky Story Writing Contest. The following students were hand-selected for their creative writing, invited to read their stories aloud at the library on Halloween, awarded prizes at the library, and presented with a certificate at this assembly: Andrew Smith, Nora Miclon, Azrael Dare, Alex Stinson, Everett Dawson, Milo Fisher, Marley Johnson, Kayden Barnard, Ellia Tucker, Liam Eustis, Juleigha Eustis, Alexis Robbins, Anthony Pittocco, Aoife Miller, Emme Miller, and Ezra Blakey. We are proud of their creativity, hard work, and courage to share their stories with others.
Winners of the Fifth-Grade Apple Poster Contest were also announced. October is National Apple Month. TGS 5th graders learned about apples during October Science classes and culminated their learning by making posters. Posters had to include certain elements, have correct spelling & capitalization, and include three learned apple facts. The posters were numbered and hung in the TGS Staff Room. Staff members voted for their favorites.
Three winners along with a special apple drawing award were given. Congratulations to Quinn Blakeway (1st), Addy Dorey (2nd place), and Calvin Paul (3rd place) for incredible posters. Winners were given a variety of items all related to baking/cooking/eating apples! Emma Hamlin’s apple drawing was framed, and she too received a blue ribbon.
The assembly concluded with a fun, Pin the Feather on the Turkey game. Four teams of seven competed in a turkey-themed relay race. One at a time, students raced down to their team’s turkey, placed a feather on it, flapped their wings, and let out their best “gobble, gobble!” before racing back to tag the next teammate. The teams brought lots of energy, laughter, and some impressive turkey impressions! It was a fun way to get everyone moving and kick off the Thanksgiving season.
This month, students at TGS will be focusing on gratitude.
Congratulations to all the students who received awards at TGS this month!
