ROCKPORT — Pen Bay Medical Center announces the appointment of Tara Boynton as the new director of Pen Bay Perioperative Services.

With a career spanning more than 12 years in various healthcare practice environments, including Med/Surg, Clinical Research, Labor and Delivery, and the operating room, Boynton brings a wealth of experience and leadership to her new role.

"Tara is a creative problem solver and leader who provides support while fostering a cohesive team environment – all with the goal of providing the highest quality patient care possible,” said Ellen Leone, RN, MSN, chief nursing officer of PBMC and WCGH, in a news release. “As a patient advocate, she seeks out gaps in best practice and standards of care and takes every opportunity to educate and empower staff on the journey to closing these gaps."

Boynton previously served as the operating room nurse manager at PBMC. Prior to that, she held the positions of operating room clinical care coordinator and operating room circulating RN/charge RN, among several other positions. She joined PBMC in 2010 as a Med/Surg nurse.

Boynton served in the U.S. Coast Guard from May 1993 to May 1997. She was stationed at Menemsha on Martha’s Vineyard and at Wood’s Hole, Massachusetts.

In 2023, Boynton earned her RN-BSN from the University of Maine at Fort Kent. She earned her associates degree in nursing at Central Maine Community College in 2010.
