Support proposal allowing Knox County Health Clinic to be on Thomaston Green

Fri, 06/02/2023 - 1:30pm

I am writing to voice my strong support for the Knox County Health Clinic (KCHC) and their proposed re-location to a site on the Thomaston Green.

With over 20 years of providing health care services to a small population, the KCHC is seeking to expand their coverage as a community health center serving everyone in the Midcoast regardless of their ability to pay.  More than simply medical, dental, behavioral health, and prescription assistance, the clinic will be a hub of wellness.

The ability to integrate important aspects of recreational space, walking paths and the Thomaston trail system, potential community gardens and other amenities that Thomaston Green embodies create a natural synergy with the KCHC.  This location will be both Route One visible and draw attention to the recreational and social community aspects of the open space at the Green.

The scale of the proposed site is under two acres total.  The building itself, to be built to strict standards that reflect the current character of Thomaston, will have a footprint of approximately 7,000 square feet… not much larger than a residence covering less than one quarter of an acre.

The offerings planned for KCHC are the services that we expect from our health care providers.  They are the services that our neighbors, friends and community members need access to in order to maintain their good health.  And they will be available in the Thomaston community, allowing easy access to our residents.

I urge Thomaston voters to approve the proposal to allow the Knox County Health Clinic to be located on the Thomaston Green and secure our good health for all our residents into the future.
