Sunny chairlift rides, pumpkin-rolling put the shine on Halloween at Camden Snow Bowl

CAMDEN — Tumbling pumpkins, grass-covered men, Merlin the Magician, witches, the brain dead and more thronged to the Camden Snow Bowl for a Halloween celebration, Oct. 31. The weather was perfect, starting out icy cold but warming up under the last warm sun of October 2020.

The chairlift was running for the last time this autumn for rides to the top of Ragged Mountain, and Jamie Weymouth set up, for the first time for the mountain, a special Pumpkin Rolling competition. Big warty pumpkins, perfect for Halloween, were sent up on the arms of children and adults to the first rise on the Snow Bowl mountain. There, they carefully lined up their sights on a broken chair, and a traffic cone, at the bottom of the hill, and sent their pumpkins flying down the mountain.

Some split on their way down, but most made a strong showing, gathering speed, and creating a rumpus when they landed on hay bales, or kept going toward the lodge.
