ROCKLAND — The Strand Theatre seeks local businesses and organizations to help present “The Big Rockland Chill,” a new winter festival that will take place on Saturday, Jan. 21. Taking place in the Oak Street Alley in Rockland, it will be offered as an opportunity for the community to get outside and enjoy some winter fun together.

“If your business or organization would like to host an activity or run a special promotion or sale as part of the event, please consider joining in on the celebration,” said the Strand, in a news release.

The event will run from 2 - 6 p.m.

Outdoor activities planned to date are “Froga” (“frozen yoga”), a fun and easy workout that can be done in winter coats; giant snowflake-making with paper and plastic materials provided; a steel pan band concert, preceded by a workshop; and a Yeti Disco Dance party. A S’mores Station and food trucks will be on hand, and there will be character appearances by a Yeti, a Teddy, and a Dragon.

The theater will be open for bathrooms, concessions, a free winter movie shorts screenings, and as a place to pop in and get warm.

If your business or organization would like to get involved with the The Big Rockland Chill, the Strand asks that groups consider hosting an activity such as ice “fishing,” a cooking contest, reverse dog sledding (the human pulls the dog!), a mobile sauna, an ice bar, an art fair, a flash mob, an ugly sweater or flannel contest, or even a knitting circle. Other ideas are welcomed. Additional live music acts will be considered.

Contact the Strand Theatre’s Katie Melby at katie@rocklandstrand.com by Friday, Dec. 9 if you’d like to be involved.

The Strand Theatre is located at 345 Main St., Rockland.
