Camden approves forming Midcoast Internet development Corp.

    CAMDEN — It was a strong turnout in Camden June 8 for another unusual annual town meeting, with 802 voters casting ballots.

    Citizens chose Sophie Romana with 525 votes, and Matt Siegel, with 490 votes, to fill the two empty seats on the Camden Select Board, vacated by Jenna Lookner and Taylor Benzie.

    The two other candidates, Peter Lindquist and Parker Gassett, earned 268 and 157 votes, respectively.

    Voters also approved, 720 to 30 to amend the zoning map and rezone a portion of the town’s wastewater treatment plant lot from traditional village to downtown business. The lot is currently split.

    Voters approved, 580 to 183, to amend the Coastal Residential District to allow tradesman shops to allowed commercial uses, and allow expansions of up to 10,000 square feet for indoor storage, maintenance and construction of boats.

    And, voters agreed, 714 to 67, to enter into an interlocal agreement with other towns to create a Midcoast Internet Development Corporation.

    The remaining nine articles on the town meeting warrant were each approved by a wide margin, including a $9.8 million municipal budget.

    The town also approved by wide margins the School Administrative District 28 $17 million budget and the $13 million Five Town CSD budget.
