Event Date
Friday, July 10, 2026 - 05:00 pm to 08:00 pm"2 and 3", a collaborative exhibition of mixed media work by painter Sherre Wilson-Liljegren and Mmtalsmith Raymond Mathis is on display, July 10 - 15, at Granite Gallery, in Tenants Harbor.
The opening reception will take place Friday, July 10, from 5 to 8 p.m., at Granite Gallery, located at 68 Main Street in Tenants Harbor, Maine. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Sherre Wilson-Liljegren will present a collection of mixed media paintings, polymer photo gravure prints and photographs. Her work is informed by the idea of thin places where the boundaries of the physical and the spiritual world are blurred. She is inspired by both the ephemeral and lasting beauty of nature, the mystery of animals and her love of dogs.
Wilson-Liljegren has lived and worked in Thomaston since 2021. She previously lived on Nantucket for 35 years and 7 years in Shell Wyoming. She received a BFA from Philadelphia College of Art and a MS in Art Education from Massachusetts College of Art.
Raymond Mathis' work reflects his continued desire to investigate new techniques and materials. In this show, he combines a variety of metals with stone and concrete, using patinas to create tactile sculptures that soften the line between two-dimensional and three-dimensional forms.
Ωriginally from Bucks County, Pennsylvania, Thomaston metalsmith Raymond Mathis began exploring his craft when he worked as a farrier using the fire in the back of his truck to create his first pieces of art. He moved into his first studio in 1988 creating work from his original designs using centuries-old techniques. In 1994 Mathis honed his skills at the Vulkanschmiede and the International Teaching Center for Metal Design in Aachen, Germany while researching the iron craftsmanship throughout Europe. His projects range from sculpture, interior and exterior furnishings and installations to commercial signage and liturgical work. In addition to receiving multiple awards in juried exhibitions and for historic preservation, his work has been featured in national and regional shelter publications.
