ROCKLAND – ScrapDogs Community Compost, a composting company in Rockland, is offering potential customers in its existing service areas the opportunity to try curbside composting. Residents and businesses of Augusta, Hallowell, Waterville, Fairfield, Winslow, Thomaston, Rockland, Rockport, Camden, Lincolnville, Northport and Belfast that sign up for curbside service before Jan. 31 will be given a free month-long trial period to assess the service.

ScrapDogs Community Compost was founded in 2018 with the goal of reducing food waste sent to landfills and incinerators, and promoting a healthy local food system. Over 40% of all waste disposed of in Maine could be composted instead, reducing not only carbon and methane emissions, but often costs and logistical challenges as well. 

ScrapDogs offers food waste collection services to residents, restaurants, schools, and other food waste-producing organizations, then processes the collected food waste into finished compost to return to customers and community members. 

Residents and businesses in the Kennebec Valley and in the Midcoast have the opportunity to subscribe to the service in order to dispose of their food waste, including fruit and veggie scraps, meat and dairy products, coffee filters, and more.
