Sandra L. Pena, obituary
STOCKTON SPRINGS — The life of a wonderful woman, Sandra Lee “Sandy” Pena, 64, of Stockton Springs, was cut short when she died March 2, 2017, due to head injuries sustained during a fall the previous day.
Sandy graduated from Corvallis High School, Corvallis, Ore., and College of the Redwoods, Eureka, Calif., where she was selected class valedictorian but declined because she was too shy.
She met her future husband, Eric, in 1973, while he was a student at Oregon State University and she was employed in the OSU Microbiology Department. She married Dennis "Eric" Pena on March 17, 1974, at First Baptist Church in Corvallis, Ore. They would have celebrated 43 years of marriage on St. Patrick's Day.
They moved to California the next month after Eric got a job at Pacific Gas & Electric Company in San Francisco, and lived in various locations throughout the state for the next 36 years. She loved the majesty of the redwood trees as well as walking along the beach on stormy days when the waves were at their largest. As somewhat of an adventure, she moved cross-country with her husband after his retirement in 2010. They picked Midcoast Maine because of the combination of forest, ocean and, yes, cold. She loved wintertime. Loved travel and visited numerous countries in Europe with her husband over the past 10 years. She also enjoyed playing trivia, reading, visiting with her close friends and family, and watching vintage movies. She took flying lessons; while sky-diving and bungee jumping were on her bucket list but never got around to it.
She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and relatives.
She was predeceased by her father, Wes Harms; her mother, Dorothy (Fast) Harms who died in 2015 at the age of 99; and her infant granddaughter, Nicole Pettijohn.
Sandy is survived by her husband, Eric of Stockton Springs; her children, Craig Pena and his wife, Jenn, Erica Pettijohn and her partner, Chris Wilson; her grandchildren, Nathan O'Meara, and Joshua and Nicholas Pettijohn; her siblings, Wanette Richards and her husband, Gary, and Darryl Harms and his wife, Pat; her sisters-in-law Bernice Lindseth and Diane Earl; her long-time friends from childhood, Marie Haindel and Cathy Haffner-Bender; as well as numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
