Sailing memoir Is June Finding Our Voices Book Club pick

Sailor, activist, and author Heidi Love will join the online discussion of her new book, Laughing at the Sky, in the Finding Our Voices book club, Tuesday, June 11, at 6 p.m.
The book recounts a five-year, 12,000-nautical mile sailing adventure to French Polynesia that fulfilled a longtime dream and helped Love to heal from multi-generational violence. Laughing at the Sky — Wild Adventure, Bold Dreams, and a Daring Search for a Stolen Childhood was ranked #1 in new releases in four categories on Amazon, according to Finding Our Voices, in a news release.
Patrisha McLean, CEO and founder of Finding Our Voices and moderator of the group’s Bookclub discussions, said “this book is an inspiration for anyone who has gone through trauma, to find courage and healing by remembering their dreams and following them."
The Finding Our Voices Book Club discusses a wide range of books through the lens of domestic abuse, with authors joining in on the discussion. Participating authors have included Michelle Horton with Dear Sister, Kathryn Miles with Trailed, and Kate Moore who joined from the UK with The Woman They Could Not Silence.
The book club is open to women who both do and do not identify as survivors. To apply to join the June 11 online discussion with Heidi Love and the book club visit https://bookclubs.com/clubs/23834/join/0c701b/
Love wrote her first book, Knowing Acts, also "to inspire courage seekers on their journeys of self discovery."
“Knowing Acts is our go-to gift to Maine’s women domestic abuse survivors,” said McLean. “Suffused with love and beauty, it is a balm for anyone overwhelmed by circumstance and trauma.”
Love has donated hundreds of copies of this workbook to Finding Our Voices.
