Ronald E. Murray, obituary
BELMONT — Ronald E. Murray, 85, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at Westgate Center in Bangor. Born April 1, 1941, in Brewer, he was the only child of Robert and Thelma Carpenter Murray. He was raised in Rockland and graduated from Rockland High School.
Following graduation, Ron was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served honorably and distinguished himself as a sharpshooter. Competing in many competitions, he earned an open-sighted record that stands to this day.
In 1960, he married Patricia Vose, and together they built a life filled with hard work, shared passions, and quiet devotion. The two were regular fixtures on local bowling leagues, a pastime they enjoyed together for many years. Patricia preceded him in death in February 2025.
As a young man, Ron worked the coastal flats, digging clams and worms with the kind of honest labor that shaped his character. One winter, seeking work while the flats lay frozen, he took a job on the factory floor at Fisher Engineering doing bolt packing. Management took notice, and though he declined their offers more than once, Ron eventually decided to stay on, and never looked back. He rose through the ranks to become a manager, ultimately leading the shipping department and playing a key role in establishing the company's Milwaukee office. Ron retired from Fisher in 1999.
Outside of work, Ron was a true outdoorsman at heart. He spent his free time hunting and fishing. He was also a proud Third Degree Mason.
Ron will be remembered for his quiet determination, and his steady work ethic.
Predeceased by his beloved wife, Pat; Ron is survived by his children, Les Murray and his wife Heidi of Rockport, Lisa Small and her husband Skip of Belmont; three grandchildren, Robert Murray and his wife Melissa of Warren, Travis Dennison of Tennessee, and Alicia Dennison of Belmont; as well as several great- grandchildren.
A private graveside gathering will be held at a later date at Achorn Cemetery.
Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.
