Rockland police investigating another hit-and-run, seeking information
ROCKLAND — At approximately the same time of night that a pedestrian was struck and killed Jan. 30 by a vehicle in Rockland, a pedestrian was also struck by a car. Not only are the times of both accidents nearly the same, both vehicles involved sped off, leaving the victims lying on the road.
Monday evening, Feb. 16, around 5:556 p.m., Rockland Police and EMS responded to Maverick Street for a report of a passerby coming upon a pedestrian lying in the roadway.
Identified as Elizabeth Grotton, 19, of Rockland, she told police she was walking west on Maverick Street, on the north side of the roadway, when she was struck from behind by a motor vehicle, according to Rockland Sgt. Don Finnegan.
The vehicle left the scene, and luckily for Grotton, she escaped serious injury, and was transported to Pen Bay Medical Center.
Daniel Cormier, 35, of Owls Head, wasn’t so lucky when he was also struck by a vehicle Jan. 30, while he was walking on Camden Street (Route 1), near Pizza Hut. The Jeep that struck him also fled the scene, but the driver, 40-year-old Jeremy Stone of Rockport, was apprehended that night. Stone was charged with aggravated criminal operating under the influence, class B, leaving the scene, class C, and improper plates, class E. He was also wanted on two outstanding warrants at the time of the crash that killed Cormier.
The incident involving Grotton remains under investigation, and police are asking anyone with information related to it to call Knox County Regional Communications at 593-9132 and ask to speak with any available Rockland Police officer.
