ROCKLAND — Rockland City Council decided Nov. 20, 2023 on their new mayor for the 2023-24 year. At the same time, two new Council members were sworn in following their wins during the November 8 elections.

“Being a City Councilor is my favorite job,” said Rockland’s next mayor, Nicole Kalloch, “and it really means the world to me. I look forward to working with each and every one of you.”

At her side were fellow councilors Adam Lachman and Penny York, as well as councilors-elect Kaitlin Callahan and Nate Davis.

Callahan is new to Council. She has 20 years of experience in healthcare, focusing first on Alzheimer’s and dementia, before turning her attention to hospice. Currently, she is part of a substance use treatment team.

Davis is a returning Council member, having previously served from 2019 through 2022. Davis is co-founder of Steel House, a collaborative workspace in Rockland. He writes software for a living, volunteers, composes music and creates mathematical art.

Davis did not seek the mayoral seat this year due to family circumstance, yet said a few words prior to the internal vote for the gavel.

“I am so happy and optimistic that we have five competent and kind people here, anyone of whom could serve as a very effective mayor,” he said. “I’m also so encouraged that there seems to be a unanimous desire to turn the page from some of the less productive aspects of the last year. Start fresh...”
