Robert E. Kennedy, obituary
LINCOLNVILLE — Robert Edward Kennedy, 95, of Lincolnville, died at home on Tuesday, October 6, 2020.
Born in Camden on March 19, 1925, he was the son of Frank Delano and Alice (Ferren) Kennedy. On August 21, 1948, he married Margaret Hope Fuller and served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1947.
In 1951 Bob ran the Texaco Gas Station garage in Camden.
Bob retired from Bath Iron Works after 36 years as an outside machinist, installing destroyer gun mount systems.
Bob was a member of Order of the Odd Fellows, Megunticook Grange, Mason’s, VFW, Mountain Goats Snowmobile Club and Waldo County Search & Rescue.
Bob loved the working farm life in Lincolnville where he raised beef, hayed the fields, cut firewood and enjoyed his four-wheeler and tractor.
Bob was involved in 4-H, Boy Scout Leader, Camden’s Twin Town Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps. He enjoyed the outdoors and climbed Mt Katahdin and canoed the Allagash with his boys and friends.
Obtaining his pilot’s license, Robert purchased a 1949 Luscombe flying out of Owls Head and Belfast airports for many years.
Robert was an honored recipient to travel with the Honor Flight of Maine to Washington D.C. several years ago.
Surviving are his wife of 72 years, Margaret Kennedy; three sons, Edward Kennedy and his wife, Patricia, of Appleton; Dana Kennedy, Sr., and his wife, Karen, of Camden; Bradley Kennedy and his wife Thelma of Santa Clara, California.
He had eight grandchildren, Stephen Kennedy (predeceased), Scott Kennedy, Samantha Kennedy, Sarah Bear, Donnie Kennedy, Dana Kennedy, Jr., Courtney Kennedy, and Rachel Kennedy; and numerous great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Alena Pennington; brother-in-law, Robert Fuller.
He is also survived by a sister-in-law and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Frank Kennedy.
Calling hours will be held 4-6 PM, Sunday, October 11, 2020 at the Long Funeral Home, 9 Mountain Street, Camden. The graveside service will be held at 2 PM, Monday, October 12, 2020 at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Appleton. COVID-19 restrictions will apply to both services with masks and social distancing.
