OWLS HEAD — Presented by the Owls Head Transportation Museum, this 2,000-square foot exhibition will illustrate the electrifying evolution of tourism and transportation history that defined the State of Maine as an international tourism destination.

The evolution of Maine's distinctive cultural identity is perfectly documented in the state’s history of transportation. Opening to the public on February 7, Road to Vacationland offers a dynamic view into the development of everything from roads to motels, ultimately creating an infrastructure to attract and accommodate people “from away” year after year.

With immersive  displays and historic artifacts, this exhibition will offer an intriguing opportunity for all ages to experience the first 200 years of Maine’s journey to become known as “the way life should be,” according to OHTM, in a news release.

Road to Vacationland has been funded in part by a grant from the Maine Bicentennial Commission and the Maine Arts Commission, an independent state agency supported by the National Endowment for the Arts.

This and all of the museum’s exhibits are open to visitors with advanced reservations Wednesday-Sunday for two daily sessions: 10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., and 1:30 - 4 p.m. Tickets can be secured online at OHTM.eventbrite.com, and guests should carefully review the accompanying safety guidelines prior to attending.

For more than 45 years, the Owls Head Transportation Museum has been a premier cultural destination, serving communities throughout New England with education and entertainment that ignites America's passion for the science of transportation.
