WARREN — Rev. Walden Clark Chandler, 80, of Warren, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2022, at the Togus Veterans Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Rockland, Maine at the family home on January 18, 1941, he was the son of James and Evelyn (Bragg) Chandler. His mother died of TB when Walden was 18 months old and he was then raised by his grandparents Lura and Bill Bragg of West Rockport.

Walden grew up in the Rockport area and attended a one room schoolhouse for grades 1-6, the Rockport Middle School, and graduated from Rockport High School in 1959. He joined the Air Force in May of 1961 and was honorably discharged in October of 1963.

In 1964 Walden married Marilyn and they had two children, Larry and Evelyn. He attended the Bethany Nazarene College in Bethany, Oklahoma from 1964 until 1970. He became the pastor of the Church of Nazarene Cheyenne, Oklahoma from 1972 until 1975. He attended the Nazarene Theological Seminary from 1976 to 1984. He was the associate pastor at Stoney Point Church in Kansas City, Kansas from 1980 to 1984. Pastor of the Nazarene Church in Rockland, Maine from 1984 to 1994. He was ordained on June 19, 1989.

Walden married his second wife, Thelma, in 1976 and she passed in 1990 from ALS. He was with the Salvation Army from 1994 to 1995 in Belfast, Maine. He was a pastor and member of the First Baptist Church of St. George from 1995 to 2009.

In 1990 he married Dorothy “Elaine” until her passing in 2019 from Parkinson Disease. He was a co-pastor with Elaine from 2009 until 2017. The First Baptist Church of St. George honored both Walden and Elaine with Pastor Emeritus December 31, 2017.

Walden attended and became a member and was also Deacon in 2020 of the Warren Baptist Church.

He was a member of the Down East Singers from 1984-2000, he participated in singing in “Living” Christmas Tree at the Thomaston Baptist Church, he was a member of the Rockland Rotary from 1996 – 2016 with a 20 year perfect attendance, he was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow in 2004, he and Elaine were co-managers of Mid Coast Hospitality House for many years, he became a spiritual director for the Tres Dias of Maine spiritual weekends and was on the Board of Directors between 1996 and 2019 and was Captain on Call at Pen Bay Medical Center. Waldon worked at several funeral homes including Carpenter Funeral Home, Davis Funeral Home and Hall Funeral Home from 1984 – 2015.

Walden enjoyed reading, canoeing, Jeopardy, and singing. He served on the St. George Fire Department, was a member of the American Legion of St. George and past Commander.

Walden was predeceased by his parents; and his former wife, Thelma Chandler in 1990; his wife Dorothy Elaine Chandler in 2019.

He is survived by his son, Larry LeRoy Chandler, and daughter, Evelyn Fern Chandler; step-daughter, Bonnie Musial; sister Sandra Colburn;, brother, Bruce Chandler; sister and brother-in-law Keith and Susan Wilkes; and special friend Estelle Widdecombe.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Hall’s of Waldoboro, 949 Main Street, Waldoboro, Maine.

Services will be held Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at 3 p.m., at the Warren Baptist Church, 166 Main Street, Warren, Maine.
