'Rear Window' screening and chat with Tess Gerritsen to open Strand’s Conversation Series
Hitchcock’s Rear Window (1954) will be presented as the first screening in the Strand’s new Conversation Series of film events. This series will pair a film with an insightful conversation with a local personality of note.
Rear Window will screen Saturday, Jan. 11, at 5:30 p.m. as an Author's Pick screening in the series.
Best-selling author Tess Gerritsen (The Spy Coast) has chosen this film as her favorite mystery thriller movie and will join TCM's Alicia Malone for a chat about Rear Window, as well as her own creative process in writing her novels.
In the film, James Stewart stars as a newspaper photographer with a broken leg who passes time recuperating by observing his neighbors through his window. He sees what he believes to be a murder, and decides to solve the crime himself.
With the help of his nurse and girlfriend (Grace Kelly), he tries to catch the murderer without being killed himself. Rear Window is considered by many filmgoers, critics, and scholars to be one of Alfred Hitchcock's best, as well as one of the greatest films ever made. It received four Academy Award nominations.
A book-signing by Tess Gerritsen and pop-up book sale by Hello Hello Books will take place in the lobby.
The film will be shown in 4K resolution. Tickets are $10/General Admission, $8/Seniors and Under 12, $7/Strand Members, and will be available at the box office 30 minutes prior to show time. Beer and wine are available at the theater’s concessions. For more information, visit www.rocklandstrand.com or call (207) 594-0070 EX 3. The Strand Theatre is at 345 Main St., Rockland.
