Proposed Belfast salmon farm to present requisite environmental protection plans to public
BELFAST -- Nordic Aquafarms, Inc. will hold a Public Information Meeting, this evening, March 26, at 6 p.m. at the Hutchinson Center, 80 Belmont Ave in Belfast. The company is to present information from its Site Location of Development Act (SLODA) and Natural Resources Protection Act (NRPA) permit applications, as well as its previously submitted discharge application, and to take public comment.
Nordic Aquafarms plans to submit the SLODA and NRPA applications to the Maine DEP in April. The company submitted its water discharge, or MEPDES, application with the DEP last October, the company said in a news release.
Pursuant to Maine DEP rules, formal notice of the meeting has been published in the Bangor Daily News and is being sent to project abutters by certified mail. The notice states that the purpose of the meeting is for Nordic Aquafarms to “inform the public regarding its proposed land-based aquaculture project and its anticipated environmental impacts, along with information about opportunities for public comment on the project.”
