THOMASTON — Preston M. Beal, Sr., 84, died peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family at home, Friday, May 19, 2023.

Born in Jonesport, January 15, 1939, he was the son of Fredrick and Emma Robinson Beal.

Following high school, Preston enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Upon his return home he moved to Connecticut with his family, following the construction boom of the 1960s and 70s. He returned to Rockville, built the family
home and continued his career in the construction industry.

Preston was a master-craftsman. He knew the old way of building and was a perfectionist on any project he completed. There was no cutting corners for him. He took pride in his work and could complete any job from design and architecture, fine finish work and furniture building.

He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. In most recent year he enjoyed the company of his life companion Patricia ‘Patty’ Poe. Together they enjoyed searching for antiques and knick-knacks to add to their vast menagerie of beautiful items.

Preston’s children remember he was known for his one liners and sayings, what they often called ‘words of wisdom.’ Being with family was always something Preston enjoyed. He was especially happy to have spent the last six months of his life with his daughter, Melony, in his own home.

He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Predeceased by his companion, Patricia Poe and his sister Alice; Preston is survived by his children, Bonnie Beal and Daryl Guptill of Spruce Head, Preston ‘Buddy’ Beal, Jr. and his wife Alisa of Tenants Harbor, Melony Beal of Thomaston, Michael Beal of Gorham, Jessica Beal Andriacco and her husband Joe of Arizona; his sister Mary Markley of Hollis; 11 grandchildren, Joshua and his wife Veronica, Lacey, Megan, Sierra, Jordan, Addison, Taryn, Morgan, and Addi; and 5 great-grandchildren, Brianna, Aaliyah, Kaleigh, Landon, and Jayce.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
