THOMASTON — Pope Memorial Humane Society hosts the 4th annual Pet Angel Tree to bring Christmas to homeless pets this holiday season.

The Pope Memorial Humane Society Pet Angel Tree is back for the fourth year in a row. Sponsored by First National Bank, you can be an angel to a homeless pet this holiday season. Dogs, cats, guinea pigs, rabbits, and more, have tags on the tree. Each tag has a few items that will make each pet's stay at Pope Memorial Humane Society that much more special. Everyone is welcome to stop by the shelter and pick a tag off the tree.

“Wrapping gifts is highly encouraged,” said Pope Memorial, in a news release. “Cats, kittens, dogs, puppies, they all LOVE to play in the paper and boxes (supervised, of course) on opening day!”

Gifts for the animals can be delivered to PMHS and placed beneath the tree, Monday through Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

For those you cannot get to the shelter to select a tag, visit www.popehumane.org for the online registry.

“Fingers crossed, many of the animals printed on tags will be adopted this holiday season,” said Pope. “Any gifts bought for those animals will be passed along to their friends in the shelter.”

Pope Memorial Humane Society was founded in 1989 in response to the needs of homeless animals – their protection, care, and adoption. With generous support from many animal lovers and a substantial mortgage, our founders purchased the land between Dexter Street Extension and Buttermilk Lane in Thomaston, Maine, built the shelter, and opened it to the public in November 1991. From these humble beginnings in 1989 to our brand new 10,000 square foot facility built in 2015, thousands of animals have been lovingly tended, rehabilitated, and adopted. This milestone is the result of the hard work of our volunteers, staff, and community as a whole. We have served thousands of animals since our founding, and we plan to continue to serve the community for years to come furthering our mission to save lives and create families.

The following communities’ contract with the Pope Memorial Humane Society: Rockland, Thomaston, Warren, Owls Head, St. George, Port Clyde, Martinsville and Tenants Harbor, South Thomaston, Spruce Head, Union, Cushing, Matinicus, North Haven, Vinalhaven, Morrill, and Friendship.
