ROCKLAND — A 52-year-old Rockland man remains in the jail after he struck a house while allegedly driving under the influence in a pickup truck around 5:20 p.m. Nov. 9.

Dwayne Ames, 52, was arrested by Rockland Police on charges of operating under the influence and violating a condition of release, according to Deputy Police Chief Chris Young.

Ames was driving the truck on State Street traveling toward Pleasant Street when he went through a stop sign, turned left on Pleasant Street, made a full U-turn, lost control, and then crashed into the house at the corner of Pleasant and State Streets.

The house and truck sustained minor damage, according to police.

Ames was taken to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport by Rockland EMS where he was treated for minor injuries associated from his airbag deploying during the crash. After he was treated and released, he was taken by police to the Knox County Jail in Rockland, said Young.

At the time of the crash, Ames was currently on bail for a felony theft charge. He is being held without bail pending his initial court appearance, which has not yet been scheduled, for the new charge of operating under the influence.
