Pianist Pedja Mužijević presents “Homage to Mixtapes” at Bay Chamber
CAMDEN — From Haydn to George Crumb, pianist Pedja Mužijević offers concertgoers a veritable mashup of composers old and new in a unique performance, “Homage to Mixtapes.” He brings the program to Bay Chamber on Saturday, Feb. 1, at 7 p.m.
Thoughtful, insightful and a Bay Chamber favorite, Mužijević will take the audience on a musical tour of the 18th through 21st centuries, including classical chamber music and pieces with ties to rock and electronica.
“I think of recital programs as dinner parties. I have always enjoyed having several small plates that add up to a dinner and this program is inspired by that,” Mužijević says, in a Bay Chamber news release.
The program ranges from theatrical works by Haydn and Carl Philip Emanuel Bach to the post-modern work of Valentyn Silvestrov to the sonic explorations of Crumb and Henry Cowell.
“I am not particularly interested in conscious logic, but, instead, I follow my instincts,” Mužijević says.
Mužijević has defined his career with creative programming, “mixtapes” of a variety of music, and lasting collaborations with artists and ensembles. He has played solo recitals at Alice Tully Hall, 92NY, The Frick Collection, Kennedy Center, and the National Gallery of Art. His Carnegie Hall debut playing with the Oberlin Conservatory Symphony Orchestra was recorded live and has been released on the Oberlin Music label.
Mužijević’s interdisciplinary projects include touring with Mikhail Baryshnikov and the White Oak Dance Project throughout the United States, South America, Europe and Asia.
