Phyllis A. Kelley, obituary
BELFAST — Phyllis A. (Welch) Kelley, 88, passed away Jan. 11, 2016, in Belfast. She was born in Knox on March 2, 1927, the daughter of Harvey and Ella (Thompson) Welch.
Phyllis was an avid reader who loved tending her vegetable and flower gardens. She enjoyed her job as a social worker very much; her last place of employment being Harbor Hill. Phyllis was a past member of the American Legion Unity Post, past president of Belfast VFW Auxiliary, associate member of ANZIO Beach Head Vets of World War II and associate member of the Society of Third Infantry Division.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Woodrow E. Kelley; three brothers, Ervin, Carl and Floyd; her son, Brent Kelley; her infant daughter, Elaine; and her companion, Edmund Rowell. Phyllis is survived by her children, Eugene Kelley and his wife, Sharon, of Monroe, Bruce Kelley and his wife, Patricia, of Belmont and Coleen Marsh of Belfast; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three siblings, Marie Schmückle of Germany, Mildred Jackson of California and Louise McLaughlin of Brooks; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visiting hours will be held Friday, Jan. 15 from 10 to 11 a.m., with a funeral service immediately following at 11 a.m. at Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave. in Belfast. Interment will be private at Maine Veterans Cemetery in Augusta.
