Philip Moody, obituary
HOPE —Philip William Moody, 93, a long-time resident of Camden and Union, died Dec. 29, 2015, at South Hope. He was born Dec. 3, 1922, in Camden, the son of Jay and Izora (Batchelder) Moody, and graduated from Camden High School.
During World War II, he served as a B-17 bomb site repair sergeant in Sudbury, Suffolk, England, with the 8th Army Air Force's 486th Bomber Group, and later worked many years as boat captain for families in New York City, Camden and Islesboro. He also worked as a long haul trucker, a truck driver for construction contractors in Ohio and Maine, and a snowplow and truck driver for the towns of Camden and Rockport.
He married Frances Sandefur on Oct. 5, 1942, and they were divorced in 1949. Their children are Phillip W. Walker (twin), born Aug. 1, 1946, in Fort Valley, Ga., and Phyllis H. Walker (twin), born Aug. 1, 1947, in Fort Valley, Ga. He married Josephine F. Stinson (Annis) on Nov. 15, 1955, and they were subsequently divorced. Phil married Donna Shirkey in 1964, and they lived both in Camden and on Islesboro with Donna's three young children, Roger, David and Sharon Shirkey. Phil and Donna were divorced in 1984 in Fulton County, Ohio. Phil then married Lucille J. Weeks in Nashua, N.H., on Jan. 1, 1981, and they were divorced in Rockland on March 20, 1985.
He was a 62-year member of the St. Paul's Lodge #82 AF & AM in Rockport.
Surviving are his twin children, Phyllis Walker Thames of Hampton, Ga., and Phillip Walker of Hawkinsville, Ga.; many nieces and nephews; a stepdaughter, Sharon Shirkey Ryan of Spring Hill, Tenn.; and his stepsons, Roger and David Shirkey of Ohio. He was predeceased by his brothers, Richard Allen Moody and James Russell Moody; and by his sister, Rose Evelyn Payson.
A spring or summer graveside service will be held at the family's convenience in Center Lincolnville Burying Ground Cemetery in Lincolnville and will be announced.
