ST. GEORGE — Patricia Kamlin, 70, of St. George, died Wednesday, May 11, after a short illness. She was born in Canton, Massachusetts on September 10, 1951 to Francis J. Kamlin and Mary (O’Brien) Kamlin.

Pat was preceded in death by her father, her mother, and her brother Paul Kamlin.

Pat is survived by her partner of 41 years and best friend, Ann Boover.

Growing up near the Blue Hills in Canton, she developed a love of nature and the outdoors. She worked at a stable tending to the horses and helping people learn to ride. She also learned to ski and ice skate, a feat for a young girl who overcame Polio.

Pat was a 1969 graduate of Ursuline Academy and graduated proudly from Newton College of the Sacred Heart in 1973 with a B.A. in studio art. She worked for Thomas Todd Printers, in Boston, in media services at Plimoth Plantation, and at the Arthur Blank Co. in Brighton, Massachusetts.

In 1989 Pat received an M.A. in Counseling Psychology from Lesley University. She then managed the Elderly Services Program at the Cathedral of St. Paul in Worcester, Massachusetts. In 1999, after her father’s death, Pat stepped in as CEO of her father’s company, Kamweld Products. She managed and streamlined the business before selling it in 2001. She then decided to return to working in the arts, with a special focus on fiber art.

Pat completed a professional program in fiber arts at the Worcester Center for Crafts, and in 2001 started her business Ibis Arts at the Bernat Mill in Uxbridge, Massachusetts, where she developed a colorful line of hand dyed and painted textile products. In 2007 she moved to St. George, where, working with the architect Carrie Shores, Pat redesigned and renovated a 1950’s quarry man’s home into a contemporary home, with two studio’s and showroom in the barn.

Pat loved Midcoast Maine. She and Ann and their little dog Coco wandered many of the Georges River Land Trust properties. Pat volunteered with the Coastal Family Hospice Program and at the Jackson Memorial Library. She worked for Kno-Wal-Lin Home Care for several years as a homecare companion.

She will be greatly missed by friends, family, and all who knew her.

A celebration of Pat’s life will be held in late summer.
