Open letter to Senators Angus King and Susan Collins: Stop cuts to PBS, NPR
What else must we say? There were tens of thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands — who knows? because we have NO INDEPENDENT MEDIA LEFT — of us again on the streets for May Day — did anyone in D.C. notice?
And now NPR, PBS cut — only 10 % of what Maine Public does is news, the rest is children's programs, real stories of lives in Maine and around the world, scientific and creative work around the climate crisis — remember the climate crisis?
Indigenous peoples' history, Black history, Latino history, Gay and Trans history and teaching — humanizing work essential for a democracy. Even the history of all the wars we have been in — remember Ken Burns? Remember history? I know this is the toughest time you have ever had in Congress, but it is past time to say NO! Independents and Democrats need to walk out, stop this government take over, stop this billionaire oligarchy.
Trying to put a finger in the dike is absolutely NOT working. We are dying out here. And for Heaven's sake and our own moral conscience, STOP ARMING GENOCIDE! What happened to this resolve you had, Senator King — vote to stop arms once, and then give up?
The Palestinians are dying of starvation and bombs. Shame on all who have allowed money and arms to go to the Israeli government. And that does mean you. Time for very drastic action.
I send you courage, as I know you will need it. Please. Stand up for us. Stand up for yourself.
