Wednesday, June 17, 2026 - 04:00 pm to 05:00 pmTHOMASTON — Periwinkle Needlepoint is celebrating one year in business in downtown Thomaston this June. Owner Jen Webber will mark the occasion with an open house celebration, Wednesday, June 17, 2026, from 4 to 5 p.m., at the shop, located at 159 Main Street. The community is invited to stop by for snacks, bubbles, and a chance to celebrate Periwinkle Needlepoint’s first year in town.
"Since opening on June 15, 2025, Periwinkle Needlepoint has become a colorful and welcoming destination for stitchers across Midcoast Maine and beyond," said the Town of Thomaston, in a news release.
The shop offers hand-painted needlepoint canvases, fibers, accessories, classes, and Maine-made gifts, while also creating a space where newcomers feel just as comfortable as longtime stitchers.
“It’s been great meeting the stitchers of the community,” said Webber, in the news release. “The needlepoint guild that meets in Camden has been really welcoming, and I’m looking forward to meeting even more stitchers as we move forward.”
Over the past year, Webber has expanded the shop’s inventory and developed several Maine-themed needlepoint designs inspired by her new home state. A Maine native who most recently lived in New Orleans, she says she has enjoyed settling into the slower pace and close-knit feel of small-town life.
“One of my favorite moments is meeting friends for breakfast at The Carriage House, then walking a couple of blocks down this beautiful historic street to open the shop for the day,” said Webber. “It’s such a wonderful small-town community experience.”
According to the Town, Periwinkle Needlepoint has grown into a destination business, drawing visitors to Thomaston from across the region. Webber intentionally carries a variety of Maine-made gifts and goods so that even visitors who do not stitch can still enjoy exploring the store.
“There’s something here for experienced stitchers, people who are curious about learning, and even folks who never planned on walking into a needlepoint shop,” said Webber. “I love teaching people who have never stitched before.”
Looking ahead to year two, Periwinkle Needlepoint plans to expand its community programming with twice-monthly drop-in stitching groups and new Sunday hours during the summer season. Webber hopes to continue building connections through handcrafting while encouraging people to slow down and create something meaningful.
“I want people to know that handcrafts are for everyone,” she said. “Everyone deserves to slow down and take the time to make something slowly.”
Current shop hours are Tuesday and Wednesday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Friday and Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Beginning this summer, the shop will also be open Sundays, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
