ROCKLAND — The Oceanside varsity field hockey team will be captained by a new head coach when the fall rolls around.

Head coach Joanna Hall confirmed Thursday morning she has stepped down amid what she described as the right time to hand the reins to someone else.

“There is a good strong group of girls coming back next year so the new coach will have a lot to work with right out of the gate,” Hall said. “I have really enjoyed the girls and I have a lot of great memories from my years leading the program. I will be in the fan section cheering them on next fall, that’s for sure.”

In a season shortened by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Mariners posted a 2-2 record this fall.

Hall has been coaching field hockey in the Rockland area since 2009 when she took over the Rockland District High School field hockey program and remained the area’s field hockey coach when RDHS merged with Georges Valley High School to form Oceanside High School.
