    Gift Basket Silent Auction
Monday November 16 through Monday December 14 at 5pm
Carver Memorial Library, located at 12 Union St., is having a silent auction fundraiser that runs from November 16 through December 16 at 5pm. All proceeds benefit the library. Those interested can bid during library hours on festive baskets with themes such as tea, pasta, crafts, and many more. Bids can be placed in person or by phone. Each basket will be highlighted on our website at https://www.carverlibrary.org/baskets.html. Every time patrons visit the library, they can check out a book and check their bids — supporting the library and Christmas shopping at the same time.
The library is grateful to Kendra Newcombe for coming up with the idea last year, and for the success of the fundraiser. We hope that it is just as successful this year.
The library is open Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesdays until 6 p.m.; Fridays are Family Day and the Children’s Room is by appointment. Masks and physical distancing are required. Curbside service is always available. For more information, call the library at 548-2303.

Reading Plays Together: One More Hurrah
Wednesday, November 18, 5:30pm. Union Hall, upstairs at the Town Office. Masks and physical distancing required.
Cold Comfort Theater’s Maggie Goscinski will lead the group in reading One More Hurrah by Maine playwright Laura Emack. All are welcome to join together and listen or read aloud new plays--no performance or theater experience required. Come and revel in some new stories with us! Free and open to the public.

About the play: Challenge rules in community theater. Yet for once the stars align as The Playhouse plans the world premiere of "Frozen in Time," a script that’s generating buzz. A generous grant permits the hiring of two equity actors including Natalie, a film star from the local area to play teenage Candy, and Karl, a character actor, who will cap his long career as leading man Roy. Add a smart, earnest director who champions the play (Lucia), an ambitious summer intern as stage manager (Jennifer), a capable, caring lawyer as producer (Alphonse), and a retired Broadway dresser as the troupe’s wardrobe manager (Maria). What can possibly go wrong?

Laura Emack's plays have been produced in New York City and throughout Maine. A selection from Jerry Hofnagle’s Top Ten List is featured in “100 Monologues from New Plays – Men” published by Applause Theatre and Cinema Books (2019). Recent productions include, Broken Bridges, Stage Fright at the Fort Ensemble, Prospect Maine (2020) and The Pride of Bangor [or What Not to Wear], Bangor Maine (2018). Laura edited At Play: An Anthology of Maine Drama, (Levant Heritage Library 2004) which includes her script Writers Block. Laura is a member of the Dramatists Guild of America, Page to Stage Pipeline at USM, and Maine Writers & Publishers Alliance. In addition to writing in many genres, Laura is a certified public accountant and a qualified French interpreter. She resides in Prospect, Maine, with her husband Jack.
