Tue, 03/04/2014 - 12:30pm

ROCKPORT – The (NAGA) North Atlantic Gymnastics Academy hosted a boys only meet at the Pen Bay YMCA Sunday featuring the NAGA team along with (DSG) Dudziak’s School of Gymnastics out of Biddeford, (AVG) Apple Valley Gymnastics from Lewiston and (SGC) Springer’s Gymnastics Center of Bucksport.

When it was all over the team scores were, 1, Apple Valley 174.9 points; 2, NAGA 166.3; 3, DSG 165.3; and Springer 153.

From the iSport web site it is explained that there are 10 levels of gymnastics and everyone must perform in each one above level five before they can advance to the next level.

The men’s Junior Olympic program works quite similarly to the women’s: There are also ten levels for gymnasts to work through, culminating in elite. Here’s a quick breakdown of each level:

    •    Levels I-III: These levels are also known as the Basic Skills Achievement Program, helping young gymnasts develop the skills they’ll need for the higher levels.
    •    Levels IV-VI: Gymnasts compete in compulsory routines mandated by USAG on each of the six events.*

This meet was for Levels 3-6 and there are six events, Floor, Rings, Vault, Pommel, High Bar and Parallel Bars with the overall accumulated points deciding places in the meet by skill level.
