Morning fire engulfs Appleton structure

APPLETON — Firefighters extinguished a fully-engulfed blaze inside an outbuilding in Appleton, Tuesday morning, Dec. 28, 2021.

Just after 5 a.m., Knox Regional Communications Center received a call regarding the fire at 807 Union Road, before dispatching firefighters associated with Appleton, Searsmont, Washington, Union, and Hope.

Within ten minutes of the first few fire trucks arriving on scene, the fire had been knocked down, allowing the firefighters still en route to slow down their response and navigate the slick morning road conditions with less stress. Early morning snow flurries had built up on the roads, leaving many stretches bare along the center lines yet coated and slippery near the shoulders.

By 6 a.m., Appleton’s new fire chief, Prent Marriner, did not have a cause for the fire. No one lived in the structure.
