Minor injuries in snowmobile crash
On March 6, soon after 3:30 p.m., there was a report of a snowmobile crash with a vehicle on Route 139 in Knox. At the scene, Waldo County Sheriff’s Deputy James Porter determined that two snowmobiles were operating on ITS 83 headed north.
The lead sled stopped for the intersection of the trail and Route 139. The 16-year-old sled operator was unable to stop for the intersection and proceeded through the intersection, Porter said, in a March 9 news release.
This resulted in the snowmobile being struck by Edwin Santana, the operator of a car traveling west on Route 139. The juvenile, who was wearing a helmet, suffered minor injuries, but was not transported to the hospital. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
