Midcoast Knox, Waldo county high school students receive Worthington Scholarships in 2024
Several members of the graduating classes of 2024 in the Belfast and Camden areas, as well as Vinalhaven, are recent recipients of Worthington scholarships.
The Worthington Scholarship Foundation aims to increase the accessibility of a college education by reducing financial barriers and providing support to help students persist in and graduate college. The Worthington Scholarship is awarded to students who graduated from a Maine public high school and are attending a partnering college in Fall 2024. This year, the Foundation awarded nearly 800 scholarships with values ranging from $6,000 to $20,000.
“Through applying for the Worthington Scholarship, these students have demonstrated a motivation to succeed,” said Julie Bourgoin, president of the Worthington Scholarship Foundation, in a news release. “Our scholars have big dreams and a range of interests and know that higher education will be the key to making their goals a reality.”
The Foundation aims to ease the transition from high school to college and provide guidance throughout each scholar’s college journey. In addition to financial aid, the Foundation provides its scholars with personalized support through one-on-one meetings and collaboration with the support services of their college partners.
“We want to ensure that our scholars are supported in all aspects of their college journey,” said Bourgoin. “We are here to advocate for our students and ensure they have access to the tools they need for success.”
