Midcoast Conservancy is hosting the annual Goosepecker Trekker, a free guided hike at the new Bolen Hill Trails in Liberty, on Saturday, Oct. 10, at 10 a.m. Please note that a $5 entry fee applies because the event is on State Park land.
The 2.2-mile, moderately challenging hike climbs to the top of Bolen Hill, follows a ridge, and descends a series of switchbacks back to the trailhead. The hike begins at the Bolen Hill Trailhead on Route 3 in Liberty, 1/5 mile west of the State Park entrance.
According to Midcoast Conservancy, in a news release, the Bolen Hill Trail network offers 5.5 miles of winding paths through 1,100 acres of conserved land, including parts of Lake St. George State Park. The land spans the Georges River and Sheepscot River watersheds and has more than five miles of frontage on the Sheepscot, which provides spawning and rearing habitat for the southernmost genetically distinct population of Atlantic salmon.
A potluck lunch will follow the hike at noon. Participants are asked to bring a dish to share.
