ROCKPORT — Community members gathered May 29 along Central Street and the Goose River Bridge to applaud local members and representatives of the United States Armed Forces and honor those who lost their lives in military service. The Color Guard of Post 30 American Legion led the Memorial Day parade, followed by police, fire and emergency medical services from Rockport, Camden, Hope and Lincolnville.

Large American flags posted along the route were highlighted by bright sun and a deep blue sky, while small American flags decorated the curbsides of neighborhood lawns.

The Camden Hills Regional High School marching band provided the soundtrack for the event as well as the playing of taps as the parade stopped in several locations along the route.

Chaplain Dave Franclemont tossed an evergreen wreath into the Goose River in memory of those lost at sea and the parade led to Amsbury Cemetery where a solemn ceremony was held before a wooden cross for the unknown dead.
