MDOT work plan announced for state bridge, road projects in District 12

Details of Maine’s three-year transportation infrastructure work plan has been announced for Senate District 12. The plan is released annually with an outline of the Maine Department of Transportation’s strategy for road, bridge, and other transportation upgrades and maintenance projects. 

“There are many exciting projects on the horizon, and with the recent storm damage, Knox County is in need of some urgent construction and repairs,” said Sen. Beebe-Center, D-Rockland, in a news release.

According to the MDOT, the work plan covers a historic $4.74 billion worth of construction and maintenance. A more detailed breakdown of the statewide, three-year plan can be found here.

The following are the planned capital and maintenance work for some communities in Senate District 12 in 2024:

 

Aviation

·         Owls Head: Owls Head aviation apron reconstruction at Knox County Regional Airport, entails safety and infrastructure improvements that may include reconstruction of the apron - phase 1.

·         Owls Head: General planning and research studies at the Knox County Regional Airport for master plan update.

·         Owls Head: Environmental assessment for runways 13-31 at the Knox County Airport and an off-airport easement acquisition and obstruction removal.

 

Bridge Rehabilitation

·         Warren: Improvements on Main Street Village Bridge over Saint George River, which is located 0.03 of a mile west of Riverside Drive.

·         Rockport: Improvements on Pascal Avenue Rockport Bridge over Goose River, which are located 0.03 of a mile north of High Street.

 

Bridge and Structural Maintenance

·         Union: Repairing the pier nose and abutment on Bessey Bridge which carries Common Road over Saint George River, maintenance is located 0.22 of a mile northwest of Route 235.

·         Union: Structural maintenance on Union Bridge and Route 235, including painting beams on Trues Bridge, which carries Route 235 over Round Pond in Union. The maintenance is located 0.63 of a mile south of Common Road. 

·         Appleton: Drainage maintenance on Route 105 and ditching and replacing culverts on Route 105 in various places, beginning at the intersection of Pinnacle Road in Liberty and extending 6.21 miles southeast to the intersection of Union Road in Appleton.

 

Highway Paving/Rehabilitation

·         Vinalhaven: Highway construction and rehabilitation on the Main Street and High Street Municipal Partnership Initiative which begins 0.01 of a mile north of Main Street extending south 0.01 of a mile at High Street and extending east 0.15 of a mile.

·         Camden: Highway construction and rehabilitation on Route 1, beginning 0.55 of a mile north of Sagamore Farm Road and extending north 1.56 miles, using Congressionally directed spending.

 

Large Culvert Improvements

·         Friendship: Drainage maintenance on Route 220 including ditching and replacing culverts on Route 220 in various places, which begins at the intersection of Route 97 in Friendship and extending 8.60 miles northeast to Blueberry Lane in Waldoboro.

 

Highway Safety and Spot Improvements

·         Warren: Highway safety and spot improvements including a large culvert replacement on Route 90,  located 1.19 miles north of Billings Road.

·         Cushing: Highway safety and spot improvements including a large culvert replacement on Route 97, located 0.24 of a mile south of Spear Mill Road.

·         Camden: Highway safety and spot improvements on Route 1, which begins 0.03 of a mile south of Millay Road and extending north 2.68 miles.

 

Highway System Operation

·         Hope: General Town Road Assistance – $40,756

 

Waterfront

·         Vinalhaven: Main Street replacement of boat ramps in downtown Vinalhaven.

·         Matinicus Isle Plantation:  Providing all vessels with new, modern electronic equipment packages; radars with ARPA (automatic radar plotting aid), gyrocompasses, electronic chart plotters and software, VHF Radios, GPS Receivers, Automatic Information System (AIS) transponders.

 

Recreation

·         Thomaston: Connecting the multiuse pathway across Mill River to existing walking and biking trails to the east-bank residential district. 

·         Rockland: Pedestrian safety improvements at the intersections of Route 1, Route 1A, and Maverick Street.

·         Camden: Construction of the Rawson Avenue Pedestrian Bridge over Megunticook River, located 0.05 of a mile southwest of Washington Street.

 

Transportation

·         Rockport: Infrastructure planning to support parking, vehicular, bike, and pedestrian flow in downtown Rockport, including Pascal Avenue Bridge (#2724) and a sidewalk connection to the schools.
