WEST PALM BEACH, Florida — Maureen F. Glasheen, age 78, passed away on November 29, 2023 in West Palm Beach after a long illness. She was born the only child to Frances Michael Glasheen and Regina Foley Glasheen in Albany, New York on June 14, 1945.

Maureen was a combination of beauty and brains and was only one of a few female law school students in 1968. Having graduated with her juris doctorate at Albany Law School in 1974, her career included working for the New York State Energy Authority, General Electric, and as General Counsel to the Secretary of State of New York State.

She worked her way through college at Syracuse University as a counselor for neglected, abused, and delinquent children at Hillbrook Detention Center in Syracuse, New York and had always been a protector and advocate for children and animals.

She will be remembered for her fostering and adopting animals from RU4 ME Pet Rescue, and for her dedication to the Padmasambhava Buddhist Center.

Maureen is survived by her children Kay Stephens of Maine and Holly Noonan of New Mexico and her grandchild Griffin Carnell of Maine and great godchild, Gregory Sprowl of Maine. She also leaves behind her dear and loyal friends, Lynel Reeves, Bobbie and Irwin Benson, and Fred and Judy Kohler, all from the West Palm Beach area, and Lama Khenpo, Lama Lorraine, and all her friends at the Padmasambhava Buddhist Center.

Per Maureen’s wishes, no memorial service will be held, but her family has decided, good Irish girl as she was, that her memory will not leave this world without an Irish Wake, which will be held by family members in private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that any donations instead be made to RU For ME Pet Rescue or Alleycat Allies in her name, two causes that were close to Maureen’s heart.

The family would like to express their gratitude to her caregivers Dian, Ashley, and Marva, for their compassionate care and particularly to administrator Debbie Lytel and her staff of Amazing Grace Assisted Care Living in West Palm Beach for their attentive care and support during this difficult time.

Condolences and memories can be shared at
