ROCKPORT — During the month of February, the Rockport Public Library will be hosting an exhibit of art by Rockport author and artist Maureen Egan. The show is entitled “Invincible Summer” and will be on view on the library’s Art Wall from February 2 through 27.

The collection of Egan’s paintings and prints on canvas will include recent work highlighting Maine’s woods and waters, as well as earlier work featuring landscapes of the Wind River Mountains of Wyoming.

The show’s title is inspired by a quote by Albert Camus: In the midst of winter, I have found there was, within me, an invincible summer.

“The quote has always resonated with me since I only paint during the colder half of the year, seeking to reconnect with the colors and liveliness of the growing season,” says Egan, in a Rockport Public Library news release.

“Each of my paintings evolves over many studio sessions,” continues Egan, “a process that nurtures me during the long Maine winters and invites the viewer into the scene to be moved, soothed, and rooted in the reassuring and timeless strength of beauty — to call forth their own invincible summer.”

Maureen Egan is a 40-year resident of Midcoast Maine. She formerly illustrated a column for Downeast Magazine, served as the Enrollment Director for Ashwood Waldorf School, and published the book The Light From Here in 2016, documenting her breast cancer experience. After raising her children, she returned to artwork and has since shown her work nearly every year across the state.
