BELFAST — Rockland-based painter Marli Thibodeau and Caribou artist Sandra Huck return as featured guest artists for November 2023 at Local Color Gallery.

Thibodeau’s work is influenced by the natural world and the landscapes of Maine as well as the Abstract Expressionist movement. Her paintings don’t reference recognizable form and are composed of opaque and transparent layers representing the ongoing dialog between painter and painting.

Thibodeau has studied both art and movement.

“Everyone has a unique way of expressing the experience of who they are,” she says, in a Local Color news release, “and I’ve discovered that mine is through un-choreographed visual and movement art. I create my work to give voice to a wild sense of beauty, the excitement of discovery, and to nurture the spark of what is possible.”

Sandra Huck, of Caribou, creates with found objects that display the beauty of weathered, worn, and eroded forms and textures that have been created by nature. Each find – a rock, feather, driftwood, or a piece of rusted metal – has its own unique beauty. Huck allows the objects to speak for themselves by using the varied items just as they were found.

Huck studied art at the University of Maine at Presque Isle and advanced sculpture at Teachers College in New York City. She has participated in several group shows, a solo exhibit, and her work is held in several private collections.

Huck will show her work until December 3, and Thibodeau’s work will be up through the end of December.

Local Color Gallery will participate in the last Belfast Art Walk of 2023, held Friday, October 27, from 4 pm to 7 pm.

Local Color Gallery, 135 High St., is open seven days a week, Monday-Saturday, 11-5, Sunday, 11-4. Beginning November 1, the gallery will be closed on Mondays.
