Marion O. Swears, obituary
CUSHING — Marion Oakes Swears passed away peacefully on March 18, 2017, at the Cushing Homestead.
Born Jan. 11, 1926, she grew up on Vinalhaven and attended Vinalhaven schools. Marion loved her life on the island.
She was a wonderful cook and loved attending her "coffee group" get togethers at local restaurants. She enjoyed spending winters at her second home in Florida with her husband, Richard. Marion married Richard H. Swears on Feb. 13, 1954. She raised her four sons on Vinalhaven. Marion had a love for animals and she could be seen most afternoons walking her dog.
Marion was predeceased by a son, Raynold A. Young; a brother, Sonny Oakes; and her parents. Marion is survived by her husband, Richard Swears of Vinalhaven; her sons, James Young and his wife, Lorraine, of Vinalhaven, Richard “Ricky” Swears and his wife, Jolene, of Vinalhaven, and John Swears and his wife, Betsey, of Vinalhaven; her grandchildren, Jimmy, Kathi, Elaine, Robert, Farrah, Renee, Johanna and Melissa; and several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be announced at a later date. Funeral arrangements are with Burpee, Carpenter and Hutchins Funeral Home.
