March exhibit highlights Abbie Read’s artist books

    BELFAST — The month of March features guest artist Abbie Read at Local Color Gallery, in Belfast.

    In response to several current external forces, Read has been working on intimate artist books. Each is a pocket sized accordion book, 4 inches by 3 inches. This size gave her the freedom to work quickly, on paper, with much exploration into both technique and in searching for a visual language that feels like a return to her painter’s past. Using gouache, markers, and collage, she created then concealed pattern, form, and marks to build layered content. The visual story touches on the natural world and its many mysterious processes and life forms. 

    The new show also features work by member artists Suzanne G. Roberts, Sandi Cirillo, Judy Graebert, MF Morison, James Toothacker, Betty Schopmeyer, DiTa, Debbie Mitchell, Leslie Moore, Conny Hatch and Sally Brophy.
