BELFAST — Marcellus M. Williams, 95, of Belfast, Maine, died peacefully in the presence of loving family at his home on Pearl Street in Belfast Saturday, September 19, 2020.

Marcellus was born on October 29, 1924, in Islesboro, Maine, to Erastus D. Williams and Florence (Beckett) Williams. He graduated from Islesboro High School and NYA Machinist School in Dexter.

He was 18  when he entered the United States Army Air Corp (which later became the Air Force) on April 21, 1943. He served in the 1257th Military Police Aviation Company. His awards include the Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, and European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon. Marcellus spent 25 years in the military, eventually working in supply and retiring with the rank of tech sergeant on March 1, 1968.

Marcellus continued working for the federal government as a member of the United States Postal Service. He spent nearly 24 years in the postal service, working in both the Waterville and Belfast Post Offices.

He married Flora (West) Williams on November 14, 1964, in Belfast, and together they had three children.

He was a member of the Island Lodge of Masons. He was proud of his service and was fond of sharing stories with family and friends about his military career, which spanned three wars, including World War II, Korea, and Vietnam.

Marcellus is survived by his daughter, Cyndi Williams Facchini and her husband Chris of Orrington; sons Steven Williams and wife Lori of Orrington, and Nathan R. Williams of Falmouth; grandchildren, Haley and Nathan S. Williams of Orrington, Ryan Hahl of Albequerque, New Mexico, Liam and Catarina Facchini of Orrington; and nephews Richard Heath Jr, Robert Goodrich, and Michael Goodrich.

He is predeceased by his wife, Flora, and two sisters, Eleanor Goodrich and Florence Heath.

Marcellus' wish was to live out his final years at home; the kind and attentive staff at Private Home Care Inc. and Maine Health Care at Home made that possible, and for that, Marcellus' family is grateful.

A funeral service honoring both Marcellus and wife, Flora, who passed away on March 25, 2020, while restrictions did not allow for gatherings, will be held on Wednesday, September 30, at 11 a.m., at Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave, Belfast, Maine 04915. Following the ceremony, there will be a private burial service at 1 p.m., at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

Those wishing to remember Marcellus in a special way can do so by donating to American Legion Post #43 or through a gift of flowers.
