Man to serve nine months for multiple sexual crimes involving children
BELFAST — A Searsport man was sentenced to eight years in prison with all but nine months suspended for one count of unlawful sexual contact, stemming from the rape of a child who had yet to reach the age of 14, according to court documents.
David Keenan, 58, was also sentenced to three years of probation for the same charge, though he was charged and sentenced for numerous other charges of unlawful sexual conduct. All of the charges, across multiple cases, were adjudicated in Waldo County Unified Court Oct. 18.
The charges come from two different cases against Keenan, and each case concerns a different victim.
The first set of charges against Keenan concern a female victim where Keenan originally faced six counts of unlawful sexual contact for four separate incidents of rape that occurred on or about April 1, 2020; Aug. 1, 2020; Dec. 1, 2020; April 1, 2021’ Aug. 1, 2021; and Dec. 1, 2021.
As part of a plea deal, Keenan agreed to plead guilty to three counts in exchange for having three counts dismissed.
In addition to serving nine months of an eight year sentence followed by two years of probation; Keenan was sentenced to nine months for both of the remaining charges of unlawful sexual contact.
Keenan will be required to serve two years of probation and will have to participate in the Sex Offender Registry, though whether he will be considered a second or third tier offender is unclear.
As part of his probation, Keenan will required to get treatment and counseling for sexual offenders, in addition to being barred from having contact with children under the age of 18, in addition to being barred from contacting his victim.
Keenan’s second case involved crimes against a male juvenile who was 14-15 years of age during the time of the incidents. Keenan faced two counts of sexual abuse by a minor and one count of unlawful sexual contact in relation to these crimes, which occurred on or around April 27, 2020.
A plea deal was also offered to Keenan for these charges, where in exchange for pleading guilty to one count of sexual abuse of a minor, the other two charges in the case would be dropped.
Each of the sentences will be served concurrently.
Keenan is expected to surrender to begin serving his sentences Dec. 2.
