Maine Water hosts drinking water facility open house in Rockport, Oct. 14
ROCKPORT — Maine Water welcomes customers to come learn about the water treatment process from the water professionals during an open house at the drinking water treatment facility in Rockport on Monday, Oct. 14, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
“Our employees are eager to meet their customers and show them the care and skill that goes into providing them with clean tap water,” said Mike Cummons, Vice President at Maine Water, in a news release. “It is a privilege to serve the community, and we want people to understand how their water is transformed from its start in Mirror Lake to its end as high-quality water at the tap.”
The facility, located at 855 Rockland St., treats water from Mirror Lake to deliver to customers in Rockport, Camden, Hope, Warren, Rockland, Owls Head and Thomaston.
Although comprehensive watershed conservation measures protect Mirror Lake, Maine Water continually tests the water at the source and throughout the delivery system on more than 120 water quality parameters, according to Mary Jane Dillingham, Maine Water Manager of Water Quality.
“People today are more environmentally conscious than ever, and understanding how high-quality water gets from the source to the tap is pretty crucial,” Dillingham said. “Most people are pretty fascinated to learn how involved the process is. A lot more work goes into this than most people realize.”
