'Maine Reverie: Nature and Light' by Erica Qualey opening reception, April 23
SPRUCE HEAD — The Craignair Gallery invites the public to the Opening Reception of an exhibition of fine art entitled “Maine Reverie: Nature and Light” by Erica Qualey on Wednesday, April 23, from 4 to 6 p.m.
Captured through the translucent layers of watercolor and the textured richness of watercolor batik, this collection is a tribute to the serenity and ethereal quality of Maine's wilderness, as seen through the lens of reverie and reflection.
"From the lush northern forests of Baxter Park to the rhythmic ebb and flow of the ocean’s tides, Maine is a place where the powerful elements of nature are constantly colliding, yet one can always find a place of serenity," said the Craignair, in a news release. "Qualey’s paintings reflect a deep appreciation for the play of light, colors, and textures found in her surroundings, offering a glimpse into the calming beauty of the world around us."
A Maine resident, Qualey is an award-winning watercolor artist and illustrator who has exhibited nationally and internationally. She also teaches aspiring artists to paint by leading art retreats in Italy and teaching workshops for adults through the Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland, the Maine Art Education Association at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts in Deer Isle, and the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay.
Qualey is a resident artist at Skidompha Library, in Damariscotta, where she has created multiple public art pieces, sculptures, and murals, as well as organizing events and facilitating opportunities for both adults and children to be creative and explore art making. She was recently awarded a grant from the Maine Arts Association supporting her work as a virtual art educator which has allowed her to grow as a teacher and fulfill a dream to be able to give artistic opportunities back to rural communities similar to where she grew up.
“Maine Reverie: Nature and Light” will be on exhibition from April 23 through May 27, 2025.
The Craignair Gallery, located at 5 Third Street in Spruce Head, is open daily. For more information, contact innkeeper@craignair.com or visit www.craignair.com/gallery.
