Maine Dept. of Marine Resources to talk with lobstermen about floating offshore wind research array

The Maine Dept. of Marine Resources will be holding meetings to engage with Zone Councils D, E and F who have fishermen who fish in the area being reviewed for the potential of a floating offshore wind Research Array in federal waters. 

The DMR will explain its role in the process, provide an overview of the project and then focus discussion on the information available about fishing activity in the area, identify gaps in that data, and summarize feedback  received through conversations with industry members. 

Zone D includes:
District 1 (New Harbor, Round Pond) District 2 (Round Pond, Muscongus Bay)

District 2 (Bremen, Medomak, Waldoboro)

District 3 (Friendship)

District 4 (Cushing, Thomaston)

District 5 (Port Clyde, Martinsville)

District 6 (St. George, Tenants Her.) District 7 (Spruce Head, South Thomaston)

District 7 (Spruce Head, South Thomaston)

District 8 (Owl’s Head Harbor)

District 9 (Rockland)

District 10 (Rockport, Camden, Lincolnville, Islesboro)

District 11 (Northport, Belfast, Searsport, Stockton Springs, Prospect, Bucksport, Orland, Sandy Point, S. Penobscot, Castine, W. Brooksville, as far as Cape Rosier)

District 12 (Big Green Island, Little Green Island, Metinic Island, Monhegan Island)

“We hope to solicit feedback from the lobster industry about our understanding of fishing activity and use in the area of interest,” said the DMR. “This is also an opportunity to learn more about the project and get the latest update on where the siting conversation is heading.”

The next virtual meeting of the Zone D Lobster Zone Council will be on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at 5 p.m.  There is no in-person meeting.  The DMR is using a video conference platform called Microsoft Teams.
