Maine Dept. of Labor announces February 2024 free training opportunities

Workplace safety and labor law requirements can seem complex, according to the Maine Department of Labor, in a news release. Join them for no-cost upcoming trainings in February 2024.

Monitoring and Evaluating for Air & Noise Hazards -

February 1, 2024 | 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. SafetyWorks! Training Institute, 45 Commerce Drive, Augusta

If you are new to industrial hygiene, this beginner course explains the terminology, explores the equipment, and dives into the standards to ensure the health of your employees.          

 

Public Sector Compliance -  

February 6, 2024 | 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. VIRTUAL

This assistance program is for state, county, municipal, and quasi-municipal employers, managers, and employees. The program is an overview of public-sector employer responsibilities including injury/fatality reporting, written programs, training, equipment/facility inspections, and recordkeeping.

 

Wage & Hour Compliance –

February 7, 2024 | 9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. Rockland CareerCenter, 91 Camden Street, Suite 201, Rockland

This course is designed for human resource or benefits professionals, accountants, business owners, managers, or payroll supervisors. This seminar covers wage and hour laws, including minimum wage, overtime, youth employment, severance pay, equal pay, rest breaks, leave requirements (earned paid leave, family medical leave, family sick leave and leave for victims of violence). This class addresses commonly asked labor-related questions.

 

Improving Your Safety Training Programs -

An effective safety training program will lead to positive effects on safety knowledge and the adoption of safe work practices and behaviors. 10-Hr. Construction Standards –

February 15 & 16, 2024 | 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (Day 1), 8:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. (Day 2) SafetyWorks! Training Institute, 45 Commerce Drive, Augusta

This one-and-a-half-day course offers basic information on a variety of construction industry safety/health standards (29 CFR 1926). Attendees who complete the course will receive an OSHA 10-hour course completion certificate.

 

Silica Awareness –

Exposure to silica dust is common and dangerous that OSHA has strengthened the rules. Learn about the health hazards of silica, the OSHA regulations, and how to protect workers from overexposure.

 

Respiratory Protection –

Mine Safety & Health Administration: Refresher –

February 29, 2024 | 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. SafetyWorks! Training Institute, 45 Commerce Drive, Augusta

The Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) requires all surface mining (i.e., stone crushing, gravel pit, etc.) employees to receive an eight-hour annual training. This one-day course will cover generic MSHA training. Site-specific training will also need to be conducted once you return to your respective job sites.
