AUGUSTA – Maine Conservation Voters (MCV) and Maine Conservation Alliance (MCA) have hired Kathleen Meil, of Rockport, as Director of Policy & Partnerships, and will be managing the Environmental Priorities Coalition and the Clean Energy programs, among other duties.
Maureen Drouin, Executive Director for both organizations, said in a news release: “Kathleen joins our team at an exciting time for Maine's environmental future. Governor Janet Mills has made climate change a centerpiece of her new administration, and we have strong conservation leadership in the House and Senate. At the same time, the Environmental Priorities Coalition is implementing its new strategic direction plan, prioritizing climate change, and building long-lasting power for the environment.”
Prior to joining MCV/MCA, Meil was policy advocate at the nonprofit Acadia Center, where she developed the Community|EnergyVision Action Guide, collaborated on regional transportation climate policies, and advocated for rural environmental health.
She has experience in Maine’s energy efficiency sector, as an educator in public and independent schools, and as a candidate for public office, and holds an M.Ed. from Lesley University and a B.A. from Kenyon College.
“Strong climate action depends on the connections that make our communities healthy, environmentally friendly, and economically strong,” said Meil, in the release. “I’m thrilled to bring a focus on clean energy policy and collaborative partnerships to MCV/MCA at such a pivotal time for Maine and the Environmental Priorities Coalition.”
Drouin added: “We are so lucky to have the talent, commitment, and additional capacity that she will bring to our collective work.”
