Learn about elusive Aleutian terns with the Maine Coastal Islands National Wildlife Refuge
The public is invited to learn from a Friends of Maine Coastal Islands National Wildlife Refuge summer island intern, who lived 24/7 on remote islands in the Gulf of Maine, about working with the elusive Aleutian terns in Alaska’s outermost islands.
Jill Tengeres, refuge biologist, carries a UMaine bachelor's of science in wildlife ecology. She continued her graduate work at the Oregon State University and on Kodiak Island, Alaska. She is now newest addition to the staff at Maine Coastal Islands NWR.
Jill’s first field job with the Refuge was in 2012 as a summer island intern on Ship Island, and she returned for two more summer supporting the critical research on seabird colony resettlement and challenges on Ship Island and Petit Manan islands.
Now she has returned to Maine as a full-time biologist, based in the Rockland office. Jill will share her cinematic journey from being a summer island intern to a biologist, as well as talk about her time working with Aleutian terns.
Join on Zoom, as well, with no registration required.
